Uros Island
The Island of the Uros is one of the most famous islands of Lake Titicaca, is located 6 km from the port of Puno and 3,812 m.s.n.m. There is an amazing archipelago of 40 islands of totora (a species of reed that grows in the marshy lands of South America), inhabited by the Uros, direct descendants of one of the oldest cultures of the continent.
The origin of the Uro people was lost in the labyrinths of history, but it is presumed that they descend from the Pukinas, one of the oldest communities in America.
